A recent report from The Washington Examiner shows that New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been racking up fines for her overdue taxes in New York for over 5 years. Since AOC’s endorsement of Senate candidate Mandela Barnes, it has become increasingly clear that AOC and Barnes have a lot more in common than just their radical policies. Barnes also has a history of being delinquent on his taxes:
- In 2018, Barnes did not pay any income tax while campaigning for Lt. Governor.
- In 2019, Barnes said that “the powerful and privileged [should] pay their fair share in taxes,” but that same year he was penalized for failing to pay at least $2,225 in property taxes on his Milwaukee condo.
- In 2020, Barnes was delinquent again on his property taxes, which amounted in interest and penalties.
