SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — We are at our hottest time of year. July is when we reach our warmest climate average highs as they range form the middle 80s to low 90s throughout KELOLAND.
Over the past couple of days, many in KELOLAND experienced a day or two of 90 degree heat.
July is also the month when we have our highest days of 90 degree heat or more, but many locations will have to play catch-up if they want to reach their average number of days in the 90s for July.
In any given year, the average number of days of 90 degree heat and more ranges from as little as 5 days in Worthington to 16 days in Pierre. Sioux Falls averages 9 days in July of 90 degree and more heat,
We’re about halfway through the month and we’re not halfway to these averages. Rapid City and Pierre have had the most days with 90 degree heat with 5. Then the numbers taper off. Sioux Falls has had 2 days while Sisseton hasn’t hit 90 yet this month.
90 degree heat will be hard to come by in eastern KELOLAND this week as cooler air is expected after Monday, but western South Dakota may see the 90s return. Keep in mind too, that western KELOLAND has been a lot drier than the east and it’s easiest to heat drier air.
