The Los Angeles Fire Department called a wildfire burning in Griffith Park on Tuesday afternoon a “major emergency” before flames were contained.
The fire started below the observatory about 2:45 p.m., and was four acres as of 3:25 p.m., officials said.
The fire was contained at six acres, KTLA reported at 4:10 p.m.
The park is being evacuated and park rangers are assisting with public safety by preventing hikers from entering hiking trails, the fire department said. No homes have been evacuated.
