SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — It’s a good weekend to hang out by the water as the heat ramps up.
8-year-old Mila Boumeester spent part of Friday enjoying some summer fun at Wild Water West.
“When you jump in the pool, it feels nice and it cools you down after a hot day,” Boumeester said.
Even more people may be splashing in the water this weekend as hot temps slide into KELOLAND.
“I am expecting big, big days out here. Hopefully the park is just packed, packed to a T I’m hoping,” Wild Water West office manager Raegan Hoff said.
The big crowds will be especially welcome after flooding in June forced the waterpark to close for several days.
“We were closed for a lot longer than we wanted. It was about a week we were closed, just cleaning up the water, there was actually fish in our pools,” Hoff said.
As people flock to the water, Wild Water West will have extra staff on hand this weekend to accommodate the crowds.
“And for staff as well. We want to make sure they’re getting breaks as well being that everybody’s basically outside in this heat, so want to help them out as much as we can,” Hoff said.
If you’re spending the hot weekend by the pool, be sure you’re protecting yourself from the heat and humidity.
“Stay in the shade, stay hydrated, wear your sunscreen, and by all means, get in the water and cool down,” Hoff said.
You won’t have to tell Mila twice.
“You just get to eat and swim and do some waterslides,” Boumeester said.
Hoff also recommends you pack your bug spray if you’re headed to the water park.
