SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The peak season for fall foliage in southeastern South Dakota is almost here. Here’s a list of city and state parks near Sioux Falls with changing colors.

Sertoma Park

Parks in Sioux Falls that run along the Big Sioux River have the most color change.

Spencer Park

According to the Farmer’s Almanac, southern South Dakota should reach it’s peak for fall colors by the end of October.

Rotary Park

The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks puts together an interactive map to track the fall foliage at state parks every year. Different GF&P departments at state parks can submit photos, descriptions and the color change status for trees in the area.

Big Sioux Rec Area

The Big Sioux Recreation Area near Brandon has patchy and partial change, according to the foliage tracker.

“Summac, amur maples and red oaks turning red,” GF&P Education posted. “Some of the ash trees still have yellow on them. The smaller cottonwood and ash trees are losing their leaves.”

Beaver Creek Nature Area

“Summac turning red. Some of the ash trees still have yellow on them. The smaller cottonwood and ash trees are losing their leaves,” the South Dakota GF&P Trails posted on October 9.
