Every February 27, The Pokémon Company hosts a Pokémon Presents showcase to celebrate the series’ anniversary. This year is no exception, and fans will get a glimpse at what’s coming for the series in the next year. If you’re looking to tune in, here’s the where, when, and what to expect.

Where and when can I watch the Pokémon Day Presents showcase?

As has become Nintendo tradition, the showcase will stream at the crack of dawn at 9 a.m. Eastern Time/ 6 a.m. Pacific Time on February 27. The Pokémon Company hasn’t posted a link to the video as of this writing, but it will be hosted on the official Pokémon YouTube channel as soon as it goes live. If you were rightfully sleeping at this hour, the whole show will be available as a video on demand on the channel after it airs.

What to expect at the Pokémon Day Presents

The Pokémon Day Presents has become a staple of every year for the series, but it was only in more recent years that it became the go-to place for The Pokémon Company to make major announcements. In previous years, games like Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet made their public debut on these streams. Right now, we don’t know what Pokémon game will come out this year, but there’s a strong possibility that a new RPG will launch for the Switch this year.

Right now there are a lot of rumors floating around, but nothing concrete. The most prevalent theory is that we might see a remake of the DS games Pokémon Black and White, as they’re the next in line for a remake after Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. If true, this would be the first time a Pokémon remake launches on the same platform as the last, as the Switch successor is reportedly aiming for 2025.

While that might be the safest possibility, there are some pie-in-the-sky predictions like a new spin-off similar to Pokémon Legends: Arceus or the Let’s Go games, or The Pokémon Company might take a break from its annual turnout and rely on a non-RPG to sell video games in 2024. Last year, there was no new game, but Scarlet and Violet got two DLC expansions with The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk. However, The Pokémon Company was still able to put new games on store shelves by re-releasing Scarlet and Violet with the expansions packaged in.

Beyond an update on the next RPG, we’ll likely get updates on several live-service games. The MOBA Pokémon Unite, puzzle game Pokémon Café ReMix, the trainer-collecting gacha game Pokémon Masters, and the lifestyle apps Pokémon Go and Pokémon Sleep are all likely to make an appearance.

Do they show anything other than video games on Pokémon Day?

Yeah, probably. This is supposed to set the tone for Pokémon as a brand for the year, which means we could very well hear updates on the trading card game, as well as the new anime set to premiere on Netflix on March 7. So be prepared for a little bit of everything.

Whatever The Pokémon Company shows, the series has been in a weird place lately after a messy 2023 and the success of perceived competitor Palworld. Here’s hoping the showcase delivers and gives fans something to look forward to rather than more of the same.
