The Tennessee Titans were back on the practice field ahead of Saturday’s preseason contest against the San Francisco 49ers. However, head coach Brian Callahan spoke with the media before practice to provide updates on a few key items.

Among them, Callahan touched on Saahdiq Charles’ sudden retirement, indicating that there was not a single event that led to it. Charles just decided that he no longer wanted to play football, as Jim Wyatt of Titans Online reported.

Safety Quandre Diggs made his Titans practice debut, although Callahan noted that the 31-year-old will be on a management plan until he is up to speed.

Before diving into what the Titans said, let’s look at several key takeaways from Wednesday’s practice:

  • Inside linebacker Garret Wallow was placed on injured reserve (IR) after tearing his pectoral muscle
  • Wide receiver Tre’Shaun Harrison is out with an ankle injury and likely will not play on Saturday.
  • Dillon Radunz is the obvious option at right guard, but the Titans may also consider Daniel Brunskill, who played exclusively there last season. Andrew Rupcich got first-team reps at right guard on Wednesday.
  • The Titans are still waiting to hear from the NFL on Arden Key‘s suspension. For now, Key continues to get first-team reps in practice.
  • Defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat is going to be a problem for the rest of the league.
  • Cornerback Caleb Farley returned to practice and was in coverage for passes intended for Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and Treylon Burks. However, Farley left practice early with a trainer.
  • Tight end Josh Whyle continues to make plays in camp.
  • Wide receiver Treylon Burks was banged up near the end of practice after going up for a ball. Burks fell awkwardly and came up holding his lower back.
