SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – Now that Thanksgiving is over, shoppers went out for Black Friday as only a few weekends remain before the holiday season is done.
“It is crazy. November and December is our make or break whole year. I mean, it’s we do such a huge percentage of our business in the fourth quarter,” Child’s Play Toys owner, Nancy Savage said. Some of the hot items at Child’s Play Toys include the Nee Doh, Air Toobz, and Jelly Cat plush toys.
“I always say if I had to pick one item in the whole store, Magna-Tiles is creative play for all ages and we love it. And now with the smaller one, I think it ages up a little bit as well,” Savage said.
Across the street is Heritage Boutique. Owner Emma Schulz says her store is stocked with lots of options for winter.
“Our iconic like fleece coats. I feel like those are pretty good sellers. And we have a couple that are in festive colors, so that’s been a good seller for us,” Schulz said.
Heritage Boutique’s Black Friday sale includes 25% off regular-priced items and the clearance section is buy one, get the second one half off the discounted price.
With December just around the corner, MatchBox Candle Co. says people have been out searching for the perfect gift.
“Definitely been a lot busier, which has been nice for business. I’m definitely seeing a lot of families coming in together and a lot of people from outside of town. So it’s been nice to get to know people and to get the business,” MatchBox Candle Co. Employee, Etta Mckinley said.
Etta says the best-selling candles include Black Hills Spruce, Amber Willow and Western Slope and are currently having a buy-one-get-one candle and room spray sale.
And with Small Business Saturday tomorrow, shops are hoping people realize how much of an impact shopping locally makes.
“We definitely struggle here for the businesses who aren’t as well known around downtown. I feel like I actually have to walk around and look at everything and be like, ‘oh, the shops here, this out here,'” Mckinley said.
“Shop local it’s necessary. It helps our community and also just kind of lifts the spirits of downtown Sioux Falls. Definitely always shop local,” Schulz said.
For the first time, Child’s Play Toys will be doing a gift card giveaway every hour tomorrow.
The store will also have cookies from Cookie Jar Eatery, which is a tradition it’s been doing in honor of Small Business Saturday.
