WESTFIELD, Ind. — After more than a month of investigation, the Westfield Police Department has arrested a man who allegedly stole a table saw from a construction site and engaged in a chase with law enforcement.
According to a WPD Facebook post, an officer first observed Jon Pastorius Jr.’s alleged criminal activity around 1:40 a.m. on Oct. 28. At that time, the WPD officer saw a car parked by a construction site located near intersection of Park and Poplar Streets.
While the WPD officer was observing the car, its driver left the area with headlights turned off. The officer then initiated a traffic stop with the driver.
The driver disregarded the officers’ efforts, and a lengthy pursuit ensued. The suspect drove through multiple yards in the 600 block of Birch Street during the chase.
Ultimately, police lost sight of the suspect vehicle, and the pursuit ended. Law enforcement later found the suspect vehicle abandoned at Washington Woods Elementary School.
When WPD conducted a records check on the vehicle, its investigators learned the car had been reported stolen out of Noblesville on Oct. 25. Police also believe the car was spray painted to disguise its apperance.
During a search of the vehicle, WPD found a table saw that had been stolen from the construction site located near Park and Poplar Streets.
Police eventually identified the suspect as Pastorius Jr. A warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest.
Six preliminary charges were tied to the warrant issued of Pastorius Jr.’s arrest:
- Resisting law enforcement — Level 6 Felony
- Criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon — Level 6 Felony
- Theft with a prior conviction — Level 6 Felony
- Unlawful possession of a syringe — Level 6 Felony
- Theft — Class A Misdemeanor
- Reckless driving — Class A Misdemeanor
WPD and NPD located Pastorius Jr. at a home located in the 3000 block of Westfield Road on Wednesday. When police first asked Pastorius Jr. to exit the residence, he refused to do so.
WPD reported that, despite his initial refusal, Pastorius Jr. eventually exited the residence without incident.
Indiana’s public court reporting system indicates a jury trial has been scheduled for May 14 in Pastorius Jr.’s case.
