The South Dakota Department of Health confirmed the first human West Nile virus (WNV) case of the 2024 season in a resident of Beadle County, according to a news release. 


It has been hot, humid, and hazy afternoon. Temperatures have climbed into the 80s and low 90s in western South Dakota. The winds have stayed mostly light. There have hardly been any clouds. Smoke from Canadian wildfires will start clearing tomorrow.


In addition to mosquitoes, the city of Brookings is also focusing on the emerald ash borer.
