SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Wellmark Foundation donated nearly half a million dollars to assist Iowa schools affected by the June flooding, according to a Wellmark release.
The funds will be used by schools in Rock Valley, Spencer, Greenfield and Minden to restore their learning environments for the present school year.
The area was vastly affected by extreme flooding earlier this year.
The four communities were identified by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, the Iowa
Department of Education (DOE) and Director McKenzie Snow, as needing urgent support and facing significant challenges. The funds will assist restore the operation of school buildings and replace instructional materials, technology and buses.
“I want to thank the Wellmark Foundation for generously contributing to schools in disaster-
impacted communities and for supporting the state’s recovery effort in such a meaningful way,”
remarked Governor Kim Reynolds. “These donations have given students, teachers, and entire
communities even more to look forward to with the start of a new school year.”
In addition, the Wellmark Foundation coordinated a fundraising effort with more than 1,900 of their employees in Iowa and South Dakota, matching all employee donations in July and August.
