SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — School is off and running at St. Lambert Elementary in Sioux Falls.
Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools kicked off the new year last week.
“It’s been so fun to see all the students back. They’re happy to be here. Their parents are happy to be here dropping them off,” St. Lambert Principal Colleen Davis said.
Starting this week, even more schools will be buzzing with kids, including Sioux Falls public schools.
If you drive through a school zone, the Sioux Falls Police Department wants you to know the speed limit is 15 miles per hour when kids are present.
“As well as keep in mind school buses will be running in the morning and afternoon and to stop for our school buses, especially when the red lights are on and the stop sign is extended,” Sgt. Travis Olsen said.
You can expect to see officers near schools over the next couple of weeks reminding drivers about school zone safety and enforcing the rules.
“Slow down, buckle up, and watch for children, watch for school buses, and hopefully we won’t have to meet in that regard,” Olsen said.
“We love our kids, and we don’t want anything to happen to anyone of them. Safety is a school’s top issue, top concern for any other their students, and we want every student to arrive safely, go home safely,” Davis said.
The St. Lambert Principal says in addition to speeding, U-turns are also an issue near the school.
