Republican Sen. Thom Tillis (N.C.) This Morning: “The last thing that the victims of Helene need right now is political posturing, finger-pointing, or conspiracy theories that only hurt the response effort.”
At a Wisconsin rally this afternoon, Donald Trump continued to lie about the Hurricane Helene response, ignoring local officials – even Republicans – who say his disinformation is hurting disaster relief efforts in their states.
For example, North Carolina Republican Senator Thom Tillis released a statement today that echoes the pleas of other Republicans calling for the lies to stop:
- “The last thing that the victims of Helene need right now is political posturing, finger-pointing, or conspiracy theories that only hurt the response effort.”
- Tillis also said on CBS News’ Face The Nation this morning that North Carolina has the federal resources they need, pushing back against Trump’s lies that disaster relief is not getting to those in pain.

Trump: “As our citizens are suffering from catastrophic hurricane – I mean, this hurricane has been a bad one – Kamala Harris has left them stranded. They have, this is the worst response to a storm or a catastrophe or a hurricane that we’ve ever seen, ever. Probably worse than Katrina and that’s hard to beat right. Worse than Katrina and they didn’t do too good of job either but this is worse. And she sends their money to foreign nations. He and she, they send hundreds of millions of dollars. They send hundreds of millions of dollars to foreign nations. And you know what they’re giving our people? $750 bucks. This is the worst response I think.”
