WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Derrick Van Orden (WI-03) released the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 9494, which included the SAVE Act – a bill that amends the National Voter Registration Act to require states to obtain documentary proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration, utilize in-person identification for individuals to vote in a federal election, and require states to establish a program to remove non-citizens from their existing voter rolls:
“Voting in federal elections is a special privilege granted to U.S. citizens. It is absurd that some of my colleagues would not want integrity instilled in the system they were elected through.
“We just had a transnational gang member and illegal alien brutally assault a woman and her child a mile from my home in Prairie du Chien. He was also found in possession of a U.S. Social Security card. If Border Czar Vice President Harris is going to continue to allow millions of illegal aliens to flood into our country and obtain counterfeit documents, then Congress must utilize every opportunity to secure our federal elections.”
