MANILA, Philippines — Italy regained its winning ways after sweeping Slovenia, 25-19, 25-16, 25-21, in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) on Saturday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Licking the wounds of their five-set loss to Japan on Friday, Alessandro Michieletto and Daniele Lavia led the bounce-back victory of the Italians to improve to 5-2.

Michieletto uncorked 16 points, including two blocks, and had eight receptions and six digs, while Lavia chipped in 14 points and five receptions.

“We wanted to win today because we deserved three points. We are happy for this,” said Michieletto shortly after the game.

Italy will wrap up its Quezon City leg stint against China on Sunday at 7 p.m.

Slovenia absorbed its fourth loss in seven matches.

Ziga Stern led the Slovenians with 12 points, while Rok Mozic had 11 points and four digs.

Slovenia will cap its Philippine stint against Japan on Sunday at 3 p.m.
