Two of my favorite things are waterfalls and coffee, so when I found I could combine them together in the Poconos, I knew I needed to check them out.
Located just south of downtown Honesdale in Wayne County, PA, you’ll find Carley Brook Falls, a beautiful roadside waterfall. And, just next to the stream is Black and Brass Coffee Roasting Co.
Carley Brook Falls is located along Route 6 just before Carley Brook flows into the Lackawaxen River. The waterfall consists of three drops that add up to about 15-20 feet in total height. There is also a fourth drop a few feet further downstream.
While you could certainly just check out this spot while driving by because it’s one of PA’s many roadside waterfalls, it’s definitely worth at least a quick stop.
Black and Brass Coffee has a decent-sized lot from which you can easily view this beautiful waterfall. Sadly, there are ropes preventing you from climbing down into the small gorge carved by the waterfall, but you can get really nice views of it from the grassy area adjacent to the lot.
While it’s probably fine to stop and look at the waterfall briefly, I definitely recommend also checking out Black and Brass Coffee Roasting Co if they are open when you visit.
Black and Brass first opened in downtown Honesdale in mid 2016 and moved to this location in October of 2019 (they also have locations in Scranton and Lake Ariel).
The interior of the shop is very nicely decorated and there are large windows that overlook the waterfall out back. So, if the weather is bad, you can sit inside and still enjoy the waterfall while sipping on a drink. There is also outdoor seating near the waterfall, which is where I chose to enjoy my drink.
As their name implies, Black and Brass roasts their own coffee right in Honesdale. I had a chance to try a regular cup of brewed coffee during my visit, and I thought it was very good (and I can be a bit particular about my coffee).
Of course, they also offer a full line of other drinks, both hot and cold, as well as a selection of pastries.
Honestly, even if you don’t care about the waterfall, this is a nice spot to visit when exploring this part of Pennsylvania whether for breakfast or a mid-day break.
So, whether you come for the waterfall, the coffee, or both, I definitely recommend making a stop at Carley Brook Falls and Black and Brass Coffee Roasting if you’re passing through Wayne County, Pennsylvania.
Black and Brass Coffee Roasting can be found at 102 US-6, Honesdale, PA 18431. Carley Brook Falls is located directly behind the business.
