SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Third Eye Gallery at Vishnu Tattoo and Piercing is doing its part to give back to students in Sioux Falls. It will host a fundraiser Friday night in an effort to address school lunch debt at the Sioux Falls School District.

Mike Fleming is in charge of the art for Third Eye Gallery. He has gathered around 40 pieces of art from 20 artists for the fundraiser.

“We’re kind of an entry level gallery for people, so I think it’s a really good opportunity for new people to show stuff alongside with bigger artists,” Fleming said.

At least 50% of sales will go to the artists. The other half will go to the lunch program.

“We’re not taking anything at the shop at all. It all basically just goes to the lunch program and the artists, and some artists actually are voluntarily going to give 100% to the project,” Fleming said.

They are still in the process of putting up art, but once they finish, they’ll have a wide variety of art from some pretty big names in the Midwest.

“It’s kind of like a who’s who of artists around here as well as a lot of first timers,” Fleming said.

Jeff Mann, who runs the tattoo parlor, understands the importance of addressing school lunch debt.

“I think just getting out there that this is an issue and it needs attention is maybe more important than the actual fundraising that we’ll do,” Mann said. “It’d certainly be great to come up with a large pile of cash to throw at this problem, but just being able to get more eyes on it and more attention to it, I think is just as important.”

The fundraiser will go from 7-9 p.m Friday. Some of the art on display include photography, collages and paintings.
