INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis family is searching for answers while police search for the suspect in a deadly hit and run.
Friday night, the community came together to remember the victim at the center of the investigation.
More than 100 people gathered at 16th and Fenton on Indy’s east side to remember 31-year-old Ambra Alcozer.
Family and friends said Ambra was a loving mother who took care of everyone. She leaves behind a 6-year-old daughter.
“It means a lot because Ambra was a special person. She touched many people’s hearts,” said Ambra’s mother, Shawn Alcozer.
IMPD said it all happened around 10 p.m. Monday when Alcozer and her boyfriend were riding in a go-kart in the grass when an SUV hit them.
The driver of the SUV took off and still hasn’t been found. Ambra’s boyfriend survived while Ambra died on the scene.
“She was my best friend. She was my backbone. My anchor, my go-to. She was the only one who could keep me calm,” said Alexandra Boyer.
Balloons sit tied to a cross, and mementos line the street. It serves as a painful reminder of a mother, daughter and loved one they lost, but a clear message from a family who won’t give up.
Friday night, many dressed in orange, Ambra’s favorite color, were left asking ‘why?’ to a question they never wanted to ask in the first place.
“I hope to catch who did this because she did not deserve this at all and he needs to pay for taking away our family,” said Shawn.
IMPD said they found the SUV in question Friday, but haven’t announced if any arrests have been made.
