Sheriff’s video released Sunday shows former corrections officer Vicky White checking out of a motel at about 5:21 a.m. the day she would allegedly go on to bust inmate Casey White out of jail, authorities claim.
According to the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office, Vicky White stayed at the hotel the night before going on the lam with Casey White, who was awaiting a capital murder trial for allegedly stabbing Connie Ridgeway to death in 2015.
The 14-second clip shows Vicky White approaching the front counter at the hotel, leaning over it and seemingly trying to look for something. The hotel isn’t far from where their getaway car was parked, Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton told WAFF-TV.
The two Whites are not related, but police said they had a “special relationship” by phone for two years. She fetched him from jail on April 29 for a court mental health evaluation that didn’t exist, police said, and they kept going.
Vicky White was set to retire that day. Now an arrest warrant has been issued on a first-degree count of permitting or facilitating escape for the 56-year-old widow who had been assistant director of corrections for Lauderdale County.
“Friday was her last day to work, however, her retirement papers were not finalized,” Singleton told NBC News. “This is a personnel issue that will be discussed on a later date.”
The two are considered armed and dangerous, and Casey White, 38, is most likely off his mental-illness meds, his attorney said Saturday. For this reason, Vicky White could also be in danger, Singleton told The Associated Press, confirming that the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, FBI, and U.S. Marshals are assisting in the investigation.
As much as $5,000 in rewards is being offered by the U.S. Marshals Service for information that helps capture Vicky White, and another $10,000 is on offer for Casey White’s capture, according to NBC News.
