SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Veterans Parkway will have a lower speed limit from Interstate 90 to 57th Street.
On Monday, crews will officially open the first stretch of South Veterans Parkway between Cliff Avenue and Western Avenue. Construction will start for the next segment of South Veterans Parkway between Sycamore Avenue and Cliff Avenue in Spring 2025.
In addition to the new roads opening, officials said changes are coming to the existing North Veterans Parkway. It will now have consistent signs with a speed limit of 50 mph to match the speed limit on South Veterans Parkway.
North Veterans Parkway is a six-lane highway with a median from I-90 to Madison Street and from Arrowhead Parkway to 57th Street.
Officials said traffic signal timing will be adjusted to accommodate 50 mph travel speeds. Dual left turn lanes will also be added with additional traffic signals at intersections.
A major intersection of the existing Veterans Parkway will be closed in 2025 and 2026 as crews build a new intersection with Arrowhead Parkway in eastern Sioux Falls. Officials said once completed the new intersection will be the largest in the state of South Dakota.
