SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO) — Officials in Rapid City are warning people to be prepared for a possible evacuation order for a wildfire that started Monday night southwest of Rapid City.
During an update at noon CT/11 a.m. MT, officials said the First Thunder Fire was 0% contained and an update on the Pennington County Emergency Management website showed a large area that has been placed in a “evacuation warning area.”
According to officials, people living in the evacuation warning area need “to get ready to go, bags packed, and be ready to leave at a moment’s notice. Make a plan for animals you may have.”
The fire, which started on private property, is at 150 acres with more than 75 fire fighting resources responding.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and officials are asking people to stay out of the area.
