SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – The Union County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a missing teen last seen Monday, January 13.

Addison Van Ballegooyen, 17, was last seen at a city park in Hawarden, Iowa, according to a post shared to the Union County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. She is believed to have been picked up between 4:07 p.m. and 4:16 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13.

She is described as a 5’ 3”, white female with sandy brown hair. She was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, black leggings and white Nike shoes.

Addison’s aunt, Katie Van Ballegooyen, told KELOLAND News that the family has been encouraged to refer to Addison as an “endangered missing person.”

Addison lives in rural Union County, but attended school across the Big Sioux River in Hawarden. According to Katie, she finished school early online and was a straight A student. Addison also played volleyball, basketball, softball and soccer.

“I want people to know that this is not typical behavior,” Katie said. “She was just the kind of person that wanted everyone to be happy. I’m sure everybody hears this sort of thing all the time, but she just really had the biggest heart. She cared so deeply for people.”

If anyone has information, they are asked to contact the Union County Sheriff’s Office at 605-356-2679.

“We just, we want her to be found safe,” Katie said. “We love her and we just want any bit of information that anybody might have. People, please continue to share her pictures. The more people that see her, I think the more likely we might have to actually find her.”
