Uncorked is a wine bar and restaurant featuring live jazz, located in the main business district of Sharpsburg. With prohibition-style cocktails, a full food menu, plentiful wine options, and live music, this intimate spot is a great addition to the neighborhood. Although the noise level on our visit made it somewhat difficult to have conversations with our table, we appreciated the cocktails, homemade pasta, and small plates.
Equal Parts Wine Bar, Jazz Club, and Restaurant at Uncorked
We visited Uncorked on a Friday night and arrived shortly after the live music started and got one of the last tables. If you plan on coming for music, you’d do well to reserve a spot beforehand to ensure you get a table and a great view.
The stage is at the back of the space, and there is a smaller room with tables immediately in front of the stage. The front of the restaurant is a long, narrow space with the bar on one side and additional tables on the other side. We were seated in this front space slightly farther away from the music, but the music was still quite loud- so keep that in mind when choosing where you’d like to be seated.
We were pleasantly surprised at the extensive food menu on offer: small plates like a cheese board, meatballs, bread, and brussels sprouts; handmade pasta options; and full entrees with beef, lamb, chicken, and seafood options comprised the menu.
We started with the cheese board and the roasted carrots. The portions of cheeses were somewhat small but there were plenty of other accompaniments like crostini, honey, various pickles, and olives that made for a shareable plate for our group of four. The carrots were one of our favorite dishes – they were roasted with a nice slight char, and were topped with labneh, za’atar, and whipped honey.
The combination of textures, flavors, and spices on this dish hit all the right notes for us!
Being a wine bar, naturally there is a pretty large wine list by the glass and bottle. On our visit, the wines were primarily from California and focused on Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Since those are not necessarily our personal favorite regions or grapes, we opted for cocktails. The cocktail menu is full of classics and prohibition-era favorites like a Sidecar, Bees Knees, Boulevardier, and more.
We tried a Last Word, an Aviation, and the Blood and Sand, which was a Scotch and vermouth-based cocktail. The Blood and Sand was one of the better options as the others were a little out of balance (either heavy on the citrus or on the sweet side).
For entrees, we tried the handmade pappardelle and the shrimp polenta. The pasta had a nice al dente bite to it, and the sauce was tomato and cream-based with crab, pancetta, and preserved lemon. The sauce was well seasoned and light enough to not overwhelm the delicate crab flavors.
The shrimp polenta was our favorite dish with creamy mascarpone polenta, herbs, shrimp, and tomato jam. The shrimp were plump and juicy (although we would have loved more of them!) and the touch of sweetness from the tomato jam offset the rest of the dish brilliantly. The portions were not massive but were satisfying, which lends the menu towards ordering different things for the table and sharing – one of our favorite ways to dine.
The restaurant was packed as we visited soon after opening day, and service was a bit slower than ideal (mainly when asking for the check). As we mentioned, the noise level was a bit too high to have a conversation with our group of four, so keep that in mind when planning your evening out here. Otherwise, we appreciate that there is a new spot for live music (currently on Fridays and Saturdays) in the neighborhood and that there are reliable food and drink options along with it!
Uncorked is located at 703 Main Street in Sharpsburg, PA.
