The company got its start in the dynamic terrain of the outback with a prototype from Daryl Neal and Anthony Clyde, pioneers in the e-bike industry. Eventually, entrepreneur Bob Ralston and his son Ethan got in on the launch and the operation established distribution out of Eugene, Oregon. UBCO bikes can now be found at dealers throughout the United States, Australia and Europe.

UBCO bikes are a spin-off of traditional e-bikes, offering a bit more of everything. For example, the 2018 2×2 e-bike was designed to be street legal in most areas. That makes it convenient when addressing work or school commutes, limited downtown parking and casual rides on a nice day.
A few years later, the company released the off-road only 2×2 Work Bike and the on-road and off-road 2×2 Adventure Bike to further capitalize on meeting every transport need. Additionally, UBCO bikes are more motorbike than bicycle, since they are powered by pollution-free dual electric engines and do not require pedaling like first-gen e-bikes. Wide, durable tires make them off-road ready and the power pack allows speeds up to 30 mph and a range of up to 75 miles on a single charge.
Perhaps the primary reason the UBCO adventure bikes stand out from the rest of the market is the aluminum frame, which is designed to carry up to 350 pounds. In fact, it was built with outdoor travel in mind, featuring 19 mounting points for everything from groceries to camping and hunting gear, camera bags, office or gym supplies and other provisions.
UBCO is also aimed at responsible and sustainable manufacturing. The bikes are built in a way that allows disassembly and recycling of the parts. The company has also announced a collaboration with Chemix to commercialize a cobalt-free lithium-ion battery.
“We at UBCO believe there’s a lot that can be done in making sustainable transportation even more of a no-brainer, especially as it pertains to climate change,” said Colin Godby, chief product officer for UBCO. “Our partnership with Chemix is a critical step for our company to apply advanced battery technology in a pragmatic way. We are delivering positive impact quickly and this partnership will help to provide a solution to three huge challenges in the industry — increased battery energy, longer range and a cleaner supply chain. For UBCO, it’s really exciting to think that our customers’ riding and exploring can be done with an environmental footprint that’s smaller than ever before.”
