MANILA, Philippines–University of the Philippines snapped a four-game losing spell after handing University of the East a 25-23, 26-24, 25-17 defeat Thursday in the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball at Mall of Asia Arena.

The Fighting Maroons waited until the third set to peel away from the hard-fighting Lady Warriors, storming to a 22-14 lead en route to their fourth win against four losses.

“It has been a while. Like I said before, like any other team we struggle, we have to find our rhythm. We want to win, we want to win more games and that’s what we are doing,” said Fighting Maroons head coach Godfrey Okumu.

UP’s last victory was over University of Santo Tomas, a 25-21, 23-25, 25-21, 25-22, last May 10.

Alyssa Bertolano led the Fighting Maroons with 14 points to help hand the Lady Warriors their eighth straight setback.

UP’s next assignment is UST, which is on a three-game winning streak, while UE tries to get its first win against Adamson on Saturday.
