GREEN BAY, WI — Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) announced that Lila Newton from Winneconne High School was selected as this year’s winner of the 2022 Congressional Art Competition for her piece of art titled, “Fashionable Hatching.” Gallagher made the announcement during a reception with students, parents, and teachers at the Neville Public Museum, which celebrated the creativity and talent of all of this year’s submissions.

“I’m proud to announce that Lila Newton is the winner of this year’s Congressional Art Competition in Wisconsin’s Eighth District. Her submission, ‘Fashionable Hatching,’ was an outstanding piece of art, and I look forward to seeing it in the Capitol this year,” said Rep. Gallagher. “This competition gets more and more competitive each year, which is a testament to the creativity of Northeast Wisconsin students and the dedication of their teachers. We’re blessed to have so much talent in our community.”

The competition, held annually each spring, allows high school students to showcase their artistic talent across each congressional district. This year, 49 pieces of art from 12 different high school were submitted.

The art will be on display at the Neville Public Museum through May 22, 2022, and can be viewed in an online gallery HERE.

Those who received awards include:

Second Place: Carly Bomier, “Starlight,” Xavier High School

The winning entry will be displayed, for one year, in the Canon Tunnel of the Capitol complex in Washington, DC, the second place entry will be displayed in Rep. Gallagher’s office in Washington, DC, and third place entry will be displayed in Rep. Gallagher’s office in De Pere, WI.
