BROOKINGS – Two frustrating losses marked the start of Post 8 baseball for 2022 Thursday at Bob Shelden Field. Brookings swept the Eights 6-4 and 7-5.
In the first game, Post 8 scored three times in the third inning for a 3-2 lead, but the Bandits scored four in their half of the third. The Eights loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but Gary Nedved grounded into a double play to end the game. Jayden Wiebe drove in two runs with a bases-loaded walk and hit batsman. Bennett Dean had an RBI single.
Post 8 couldn’t hold an early 5-0 lead in the nightcap. Brookings then scored two runs in the third and five runs in the fourth. Jonny Lyons and Lincoln Kienholz had RBI singles in the second inning for the Eights, followed by a George Stalley RBI groundout. In the third, Nedved had an RBI single and Lyons had an RBI double.
