RIPLEY COUNTY, IN – A crash occurred on Tuesday afternoon on US 421 just north of Versailles, Indiana, claiming the lives of two Ripley County men.
According to Indiana State Police, just before 3 p.m. multiple first responders responded to a crash that involved a 2001 Ford F-450 dump truck and a semi.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the dump truck, driven by 24-year-old Nathan M. Vogelsang of Dillsboro, IN, was traveling southbound on US 421 near County Road 100 North when Vogelsang lost control of the vehicle.
Vogelsang’s vehicle crossed the center line into the path of a northbound semi pulling a Mack box trailer, being driven by Oleh Hrudneko, 34, of Buffalo, Illinois. The vehicles collided in a near head on collision in the northbound lane.
Vogelsand and his passenger 19-year-old Landen J.W. Comer of Osgood, IN, sustained fatal injuries in the crash and were both pronounced deceased at the scene. Hrudneko sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Investigators say there are no initial indications that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
US 421 was closed for approximately five hours for the crash investigation and cleanup, with investigators staying on the scene late into the evening.
