The Malik Willis experiment is over. On Monday, one day before NFL teams must cut their rosters to 53 players, the Tennessee Titans sent Willis to the Green Bay Packers for a 2025 seventh-round pick.
A third-round selection in the 2022 NFL draft, Willis appeared in eight games as a rookie with three starts. The Titans won one of those starts as Willis struggled, completing just over 50% of his passes for 276 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions. He rushed for 123 yards and one touchdown.
In 2023, the Titans selected quarterback Will Levis in the second round of the NFL draft, pushing Willis down the depth chart behind Levis and Ryan Tannehill. He appeared in three games last season.
Tannehill departed in the offseason, and new head coach Brian Callahan planned to build around Levis. However, Willis would not be the backup as Tennessee signed veteran Mason Rudolph. Callahan said Willis and Rudolph would compete for the backup job, but Rudolph outplayed Willis throughout training camp and the preseason.
Now, Willis heads to Green Bay as Jordan Love’s backup. After the trade, we took to X—formerly Twitter—to see everyone’s reactions, including Jeffery Simmons.
