PLAINFIELD, Ind. — Piles of trash are building up and overflowing at an apartment complex in Plainfield and those living there are fed up.

“It’s not pleasant to look at,” said Ann Williams who lives at Gladden Farms Apartment Homes in Plainfield.

If you drive inside Gladden Farms, you will quickly notice mountains of trash piling up. That includes boxes, bags and even grocery carts overflowing with garbage.

“It’s really embarrassing because it’s the first thing you see when you drive into the apartments,” Williams said.

Multiple people living at the apartments spoke to FOX59/CBS4 on and off-camera and said this is not a new problem. That includes Williams, who has lived at Gladden Farms for three years.

“It’s always been an issue ever since we’ve lived here,” she said. “It looks like that regularly.”

Williams, like others living there, said the trash pileup is an eyesore. However, that is not her only concern.

“I just worry it’s probably a health hazard,” she said. “And it doesn’t stay over there. If you walk around, there’s just trash everywhere kind of.”

Neighbors said that mess usually just keeps building.

“If there’s nowhere to put it or it’s overflowing, people just come by, dump off their trash and throw it on the pile,” Williams described.

Pictures circulating on social media over the last couple days showed garbage stacking at least three or four full bags high. On Wednesday, trash still spilled out, but not quite as badly.

Williams said there simply are not enough trash containers at the apartment complex.

“There’s only one place in this entire complex where you can throw away trash,” she said.

FOX59/CBS4 called the apartment complex multiple times Wednesday. An office employee told reporters, “it’s being handled.”

While FOX59/CBS4 did see people picking up trash Wednesday, when reporters asked what specifically is being done, an apartment employee replied, “nothing” and hung up the phone.

Neighbors said they are happy to see some sort of tidying up right now, but they said a onetime cleanup is not enough.
