Tennessee Titans offensive lineman Saahdiq Charles is calling it quits. The 25-year-old was placed on the reserve/retired list, the team announced on Tuesday. Charles was absent from several practices in training camp for what head coach Brian Callahan called personal reasons.
Charles signed with the Titans back in March after spending the first four years of his career with the Washington Commanders. He played in a career-high ten games last season.
The ripple effect of Charles’ retirement has an enormous effect on the right side of the offensive line, an area that has been a weak spot thus far in camp. Charles was listed as the starting right guard in the Titans’ first unofficial depth chart on Monday.
Dillon Radunz, who is solely focused on playing guard this season, was listed as the backup. The Titans could also consider Daniel Brunskill, who started exclusively at right guard last season but was listed as the backup center in the latest depth chart.
However, Tennessee could be in the market for offensive line help as teams around the National Football League make roster cuts as the preseason schedule unfolds.
