TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. — A crash in Tippecanoe County left two people dead Monday evening.

According to a press release, the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about a crash in the 8000 block of County Road 800 South near West Point around 4:54 p.m. When first responders arrived at the scene, they found two vehicles that had been involved in a crash — a maroon 2000 Chevrolet Blazer and a light blue 2006 Toyota Prius.

Officials ultimately determined that the drivers of both cars sustained fatal injuries in the crash. The cars’ only occupants were their drivers.

After a preliminary investigation, Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s deputies determined the Blazer was traveling westbound on County Road 800 South when it crossed over the roadway’s center line and struck the Prius head-on.

The Blazer overturned and came to rest in the roadway. The Prius was forced off the road during the crash, and it ran into a cornfield before it stopped moving.

County Road 800 South was closed for about four hours while officials investigated and cleaned up the crash. The Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office will identify the two individuals who were killed in the crash at a later date.

As of this article’s publication, no additional information on the incident had been made available.
