SOUTH DAKOTA (KELO) — Good morning KELOLAND! The showers and thunderstorms from the past 24 hours have diminished for most areas of KELOLAND. The map below shows the rain totals for much of the region.

Skies are partly cloudy this morning in Aberdeen with dry conditions forecast today.

A fire weather warning has been issued for far southwestern South Dakota this afternoon. Relative humidity levels will drop below 15% and dry lightning could become a problem with any local thunderstorms that do develop.

Our short-term forecast for the Sioux Falls area today is much different. High temperatures will climb into the mid-70s under a partly sunny sky through the late afternoon.

On Futurecast, you’ll notice areas of showers and thunderstorms developing in Western South Dakota after 4:00 p.m. today. Some of this activity will migrate eastward overnight into Central KELOLAND. Other thunderstorms could develop in North Dakota late tonight, putting a chance of rain into the Aberdeen area as we begin Thursday.

Don’t forget about the wind forecast the next 24 to 48 hours. Strong gusty winds are likely today in Central South Dakota, with gusts over 30 mph expected. Breezy to windy conditions are forecast East River tomorrow under a partly cloudy sky.

We’ll be watching some deep moisture moving back into the region the next couple of days. The biggest question will be whether or not we can develop enough forcing to trigger clusters of showers and thunderstorms in the region. Locally heavy rain would be likely if thunderstorms do develop.

Here are the details of the forecast.

A hot and humid weather forecast is expected this weekend in Sioux Falls with highs around 90 and the heat index could reach 105 Sunday afternoon.
