The “Hollywood Reporter” posted a list of 2024’s Winners and Losers. Here are some of the highlights:
1. Winner: Zendaya and other former child stars. Specifically, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, and Lindsay Lohan, who’s having kind of a comeback year.
2. Losers: Kevin Costner and Francis Ford Coppola. “Horizon” and “Megalopolis” were big, expensive passion projects that both went bust.
3. Winner: Taylor Sheridan. While Costner left “Yellowstone” to do “Horizon”, everything Sheridan touches continues to turn to gold.
4. Winner: Joe Rogan and podcast disruptors.
5. Loser: The Joe Biden / Kamala Harris celebrity cheer squad.
6. Winner: Everybody involved with “The Penguin”.
7. Loser: Everybody involved with “Joker: Folie à Deux”.
8. Winner: Chappell Roan and the pop girls of summer.
9. Loser: Katy Perry . . . whose big pop music comeback was a critical and commercial dud.
10. Winner AND Loser: Beyoncé. Her “Cowboy Carter” album debuted at #1, and also made her the first black woman to top the Country Album chart.
But sales dropped off quickly, and the album was snubbed by the “CMAs”.
