SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) —It may not feel like it, but spring is here, which has many people gearing up for spring cleaning. If one of the things you’re cleaning out is your closet, there’s a perfect place for you to donate your clothes to help others.
If you have women’s clothing you are looking to get rid of, now is the perfect time.
At several locations around Sioux Falls, including the Black Hills Federal Credit Unions, you can find drop off boxes for Movers for Moms.
“Collection started on the 19th of March, and we’ll go through the 6th of May, so that we’re ready to deliver for Mother’s Day,” said Angela Drake, Owner of 2 Men and a Truck.
The clothes collected will go to help Embe’s Dress for Success.
“We bring them into our boutique and we work one on one with women. Whether they are entering into the workforce, maybe they’re reentering in or they’re looking for career changes and we bring them in. We give them one on one styling sessions, really help them feel confident. They leave our, building with a full interview outfit, head to toe jewelry, shoes, the whole nine yards,” women’s program manager at Embe Melissa Webb said.
While all clothing is accepted, Dress for Success specifically needs work wear.
“We all need that power black pair of pants that looks good and we feel good in it. So those are in desperate need, black pants of all sizes, some cute blouses, jackets, and, of course, those great black shoes,” Drake said.
Helping women look and feel their best without breaking the bank.
“Empowering women, making them feel better about themself, is a way for us to give back, both as a credit union and, us personally, makes us such a great partnership that we can help,” Membership Developer Black Hills Federal Credit Union, Candice Menke said.
“It really helps boost their mood, their positivity. They’re feeling confident as they go into their new jobs or as they’re growing in their career path,” Webb said.
Last year’s event collected around 174,000 items.
