SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – A space in downtown Sioux Falls that’s been around for decades is entering a new era of art and community.

Nordic Hall along west 13th street has been home to a variety of office spaces over the years, but at times its history was a little more eclectic.

The basement of Nordic Hall at one point was a haven for the Sioux Falls punk rock scene.

Now, the building is entering a new era of creativity.

“You know, the history of it is what makes it, I feel, what it is,” Heather Cain with Zenith Art Studios and Sufu Creative said. “We kind of want to preserve that but make it a little more modern as well.”

Inside Nordic Hall you can find spaces like Zenith Art Studios and Sufu Creative.

“Zenith is basically a by-the-hour you can rent out meeting spaces for businesses,” Cain said. “There’s art studios that have drafting tables, they have easels, so kind of everything the artist might need to create their creation.”

There are also shopping opportunities like at Rose and Eugene Presents.

“I specialize in Midwest-made items and I just am here to champion makers that are sans-coast,” Mel Cotton, owner of Rose and Eugene Presents, said. “So it could be gift, jewelry, 2D art, 3D art. It’s a little bit of everything.”

An old space with a new vibe of bringing creative people together.

“If you are even art curious, come in and see what’s here,” Cotton said. “Everything is so approachable, the people here are so welcoming and friendly. Just come down and experience it.”

The ‘New’ Nordic Hall is being introduced to Sioux Falls with an open house Friday night from 6 to 9. There will be live music, food and giveaways.
