United States Christmas Bird Counts (CBC) reported 667 species, 81 infraspecific forms (forms), and 40 exotic species (ex).  The Mottled Owl at Falcon Dam S.P., TX, was a new species for a U.S. CBC.  The Gray-collared Becard and Fan-tailed Warbler at Brownsville, TX, were also new, but they were only found during Count Week (cw).  Additional species during cw were Hudsonian Godwit (DE, Bombay Hook N.W.R.), Slaty-backed Gull (IN, Elkhart County), Green-breasted Mango (LA, Thibodaux), Rufous-capped Warbler (AZ, Green Valley-Madera Canyon), and Crimson-collared Grosbeak (TX, Weslaco).

Only one CBC can have the most species in the country, but many counts can have the highest tally of a species.  This season 45 states and 388 CBCs had the highest count for at least 1 species. California led all states with high tallies of 125 species, 25 forms, and 20 ex.   Texas placed 2nd with high counts of 93 species, 8 forms, 2 ex and 3 cw.   Florida was 3rd with high counts for 90 species, 3 forms and 13 ex.  These were followed by Hawaii with high tallies for 71 species, 4 forms and 2 ex, Arizona with high tallies for 64 species, 3 forms and 1 cw, Alaska 35 species and 1 form, Washington 22 species and 1 form, Massachusetts 20 species and 2 forms, Oregon 17 species and 4 forms, Louisiana 17 species, 1 form and 1 cw, Colorado 14 species and 9 forms, and New York 12 species and 5 forms.  All other states had less than 11 high counts.

Midway Atoll, HI, had the highest tally for 19 species in the country.  Homestead, FL, had 17 species, Matagorda County, TX, 16 species, San Diego, CA, 15 species, 7 forms and 3 ex. All-time high counts were made for 33 species this season.  One third of these all-time high records topped or matched the previous highest tally which occurred in the 123rd season.  One third more of the new all-time high count records topped or matched older records of the previous decade. The remaining new records were scattered across the previous decades with 4 records tied the all-time highest from 29-41 years ago.  A report of 50,000 Bonin Petrels at Laysan Island, HI, 29 years ago was matched at Midway Atoll, HI, this season. One White-eared Hummingbird reported at Ramsey Canyon, AZ, during the 93rd season was also tallied during this season. A Brambling was found on the Kodiak, AK, CBC during the 92nd season and another was reported at Homer, AK, this season.   A Roadside Hawk reported at Anzalduas- Bentsen, TX, CBC during the 83rd season was also tallied during the 124th.
