This one’s a hoot.

An elderly Texas couple was forced to put their home up for sale after their neighbors sued them for feeding local ducks.

George and Kathleen Rowe, of Cypress, fell in love with the ducks as soon as they moved into their home in the far northwest Houston suburb, the Houston Chronicle reported.

“They’ve never had a mother,” Kathleen, 65, told the outlet. “I feel like I’m just stepping in.”

But the neighbors in the local homeowners association don’t see it that way, according to the Chronicle. They’re angry about the ducks pooping in yards and wrecking gardens, and they sued the Rowes on June 11 for a maximum of $250,000.

The HOA members claim that the Rowes are violating their agreement and should be fined. If the Rowes lose the lawsuit and can’t come up with the $250,000, the HOA asked for their home to be foreclosed, the Chronicle reported.

The Rowes responded by putting their home up for sale.

“We didn’t have the $250,000, so we have to be prepared in case that’s what it’s going to cost,” Kathleen told the Chronicle.

The Rowes purchased the home about a decade ago, in part because of the ducks, they told the Chronicle. They said the neighbors started complaining two years later and haven’t stopped since.

In the lawsuit, the HOA said the Rowes have been admonished several times for feeding the ducks, but they kept doing it anyway.

“The violations are detrimental to the Subdivision,” the suit said, “causing imminent harm and irreparable injury.”
