The Tennessee Titans have had a strange and disappointing season through the 2024 season. Some frustrations can be explained, some are cases of terrible luck, and some of the things the team has gone through are rather unbelievable and just weird.

The fact that the Titans statistically have the number one defense in the league in different categories is incredible, especially considering where they sit in points allowed. This season, their 26.7 points per game ranked 29th in the NFL and is the most in history by a number-one-ranked unit.

The Titans’ defense is good, but they are nowhere near elite. In fact, their total yardage and even passing yardage are skewed by the many issues their special teams have had throughout the 2024 season and turnovers.

With so many short fields, their defense may not give up much yardage, but they have given up points and have not been able to hold up for four quarters. The defense is a lot better than the offense or special teams, but it is far from the elite unit that the rankings may project.

Like the other units, there is a lot of room for growth. Yes, there are building blocks in place that could lead to better things in the future, but until they come together and play a complete game, they will be considered overrated.

That number one ranked unit will take the field again on Sunday at Nissan Stadium when the Titans battle the Minnesota Vikings in Week 11 action.
