Whether the Titans thought they had the protection nailed down or not, they only added two offensive linemen this offseason: J.C. Latham (first round draft pick) and Leroy Watson. They did sign Saadiq Charles, but he retired unexpectedly just a few days after signing so the Titans had plenty of notice. Their clear offseason agenda was around bolstering the defense and adding skill players, which they accomplished.

Unfortunately, their lack of attention to the offensive line was on full display all season as the Titans allowed the fifth-most sacks in the NFL with 52. That’s an average of three sacks per game. How long do you think any quarterback can stay healthy when they’re getting hit like that? And that doesn’t count the quarterback hits they took that weren’t sacks.

Yes, the quarterback play has to improve, but the offensive line play was so bad this season that people are genuinely surprised. Not just that they were bad, but that nothing was done to fix it. We have to acknowledge the injuries along the line, but if we’re being honest, it was a season-long problem that Lloyd Cushenberry and Andrew Rupcich can’t fix on their own.
