INDIANAPOLIS — Multiple people are in custody after a reported robbery on Thursday morning at a bank on the southeast side of Indianapolis.
According to officials with the Indiana State Police and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, a reported robbery occurred at a bank near the intersection of Southeastern Avenue and Northeastern Avenue at around 7:52 a.m. Thursday.
IMPD confirmed with FOX59/CBS4 that suspects robbed a Brinks armored vehicle. A news release from IMPD said that the Brinks employee in the vehicle was robbed of “personal items by two male suspects.”
The two suspects fled in a vehicle that had a third person inside. This led to a short pursuit, ending with the vehicle crashing in the area of S. Arlington Avenue and Julian Avenue. The suspects fled the crash location on foot.
“The swift and thorough work of the southeast and east district officers has yielded the apprehension of two of the three suspects at this time,” the release said, “following the multi-district coordination of multiple perimeters and the assistance of the Indiana State Police, the IMPD K9 unit and the IMPD Aviation (Drone) Unit. Multiple suspect vehicles have also been located.”
Officials said that detectives do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community. Area schools were contacted and placed on lockdown during the investigation. The lockdowns have been lifted at this time.
