BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — An investigation is underway after suspected human remains were discovered at a dig site in Bloomington Wednesday afternoon.

According to a news release, officers with the Bloomington Police Department were called around 2:45 p.m. on March 26 to the 1000 block of W. Acuff Road after receiving reports that suspected human remains were discovered in a wooded area.

BPD said a land-clearing crew was in the area when the remains were found.

“Upon the arrival of officers, it was determined that the bones did indeed appear to be from a human body,” BPD said in the release.

The remains are being assessed by a forensic anthropology team based out of Indianapolis that visited the scene on Thursday, BPD said. The Monroe County Coroner’s Office was also called to assist at the scene.

As of this article’s publication, the deceased individual has not been identified. The investigation remains active.
