INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man recently arrested in relation to a deadly triple shooting in April has been arrested again for another homicide, according to a social media post by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Homicide detectives arrested 26-year-old Gerald Hatcher on Thursday in relation to the March homicide of 25-year-old Yasar Burnett on the city’s far south side.
Just after 3:30 p.m. on May 6, officers with the department’s southwest district were dispatched to the 900 block of W. Stop 11 Road on a report of a vehicle going off the road and into a yard. When officers arrived, they located Burnett who was shot. Burnett was later pronounced dead at the scene.
After an investigation, IMPD homicide detectives were able to identify Hatcher as a suspect in the incident, the department said in the social media post.
When Hatcher was arrested for the March homicide on Thursday, IMPD said that he was already in custody in relation to the deadly triple shooting in April at the Wildwood Village Apartments on the near northwest side of Indianapolis.
According to previous reports, one person, identified at the time as 19-year-old Ivionte Campbell, died in this shooting while two others were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. Hatcher has been preliminarily charged with murder and aggravated assault in relation to the April shooting.
