SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – Police have made an arrest and charged a suspect in connection to the homicide in Sioux Falls over the weekend.

Tuesday evening, Eleghba Ronzell Lipsey, 51, was arrested by Sioux Falls police and charged with murder, manslaughter and aggravated assault. This comes after Aidan Quickbear, 25, died after being stabbed in a parking lot before 1 a.m. on Nov. 23.

Sam Clemens with the Sioux Falls Police Department says the victim and suspect knew each other.

“Had some type of, I guess, disagreement between a couple of guys. The suspect ended up using a knife and stabbed the victim,” Clemens said.

According to court documents, police have had contact with Lipsey three separate times in the last two months near his home.

And Lipsey is no stranger to the court system.

In October 2022, Lipsey was sentenced to five years in prison for possessing meth but got out on parole in October 2023.

As for what led to this arrest, police say three witnesses saw Lipsey near the scene that night.
Documents say on the night of the homicide the suspect heard a woman scream, but no one answered, so he carried a brown kitchen knife on him for protection and then walked north of where the crime happened.

That knife is now being held as evidence for forensic testing. Police say there are still a lot of questions in the case.

“We don’t know really the circumstances, exactly what led up. We do know that the victim and suspect were with each other and then the suspect stabbed the victim. The why that happened, we don’t have answers to that at this point,” Clemens said.

Lipsey is being held at the Minnehaha County jail on a $1 million bond. This is the 14th homicide in Sioux Falls this year, a record number for the city.
