GREENWOOD, Ind. — A 13-year-old boy was charged with the murder of another 13-year-old boy by the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office after a shooting in Greenwood in early November.
According to JCPO, proceedings have begun in the Johnson County Juvenile Court. Petitions were filed by the prosecutor’s office on Tuesday for the charges of murder and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon. Both charges are considered felonies if committed by an adult.
The decision has not been made on whether he will be charged as an adult. The initial hearing in juvenile court is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 26.
According to preliminary investigations, a group of children was playing with a gun when the suspect reportedly pointed a firearm at the victim and shot him. The juveniles left the scene and left the victim behind.
The alleged shooter then called 911 and reported that an attempted suicide occurred. The teen boy, identified as James Davis, was transported to an area hospital, where he later died.
The teen was arrested on a preliminary charge of murder.
It remains unclear who owned the gun. The parents are not currently facing criminal charges.
