Boss Emong and Super Swerte, the most dominant forces on turf this year, break their tie in the Philracom’s series of big stakes races on Sunday when the P2.5 million Chairman’s Cup is run over the grueling 2,000 meters at Metro Manila Turf Club in Malvar, Batangas province.

The duo sets out as the logical favorites in the betting after splitting the first two legs and Super Swerte coming off a win in the Classic Cup about six weeks ago. The last of this three-stage series offers a bounty of P1.5 million to the winning connections.

Lung-busting races

Jessie Guce handles Super Swerte in the race that favors his mount’s ability to finish off foes in the stretch of lung-busting races, while JT Zarate steers Boss Emong, a versatile six-year-old who can start fast and was able to hold off Super Swerte in the Commissioner’s Cup ran over the mile in February.

Super Swerte’s win came over 1,800 meters.

Three others, counting 2020 Presidential Gold Cup champ Pangalusian Island will be shooting for upsets even as Division II and III races of the event will also be held.

“Events like these give incentive to owners and breeders alike to improve their stock thus, in the process, bring the industry to greater heights,” said Reli de Leon, the Philracom chair.
