NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Hours following the New Year’s Day tragedy on Bourbon Street, Wednesday’s Allstate Sugar Bowl bout between Notre Dame and Georgia is being postponed.
The CFP Quarterfinal was scheduled to take place at the Caesars Superdome Jan. 1 at 7:45 p.m. Allstate Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley confirmed during a news conference Wednesday that the game will be postponed 24 hours.
The FBI says that around 3:15 Wednesday morning, a pickup truck plowed into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street, killing at least ten and injuring dozens of others.
The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, was shot and killed by local law enforcement after he opened fire on NOPD officers responding to the attack, FBI officials said.
The FBI adds that weapons and potential improvised explosive devices were located in the suspect’s vehicle and throughout the French Quarter.
According to FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Alethea Duncan, two IEDs have been found.
