STURGIS, S.D. (KELO) — On Thursday at about 10:45 a.m. (MST), the Meade County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) was in the 8100 block of South Blucksberg Drive to follow up on an assault that occurred earlier in the morning.

According to the MCSO press release, contact was made with Daniel O’Crotty, 43, of Sturgis at a residence. O’Crotty refused to come outside and was refusing to go to jail. Negotiations continued with O’Crotty for several hours and law enforcement learned he was likely armed. O’Crotty also made threats about engaging law enforcement so he could be shot.

At about 3:31 p.m., O’Crotty surrendered peacefully and was transported to the Meade County Jail.

Coordination between the Meade School District and the MCSO, assured kids were not dropped off in the area or allowed to walk into the area of the incident.

O’Crotty has been charged with aggravated assault, domestic violence, false imprisonment, simple assault and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
