SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Six days in and the traffic count for vehicles entering the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally has reached 321,788, according to the South Dakota Department of Transportation. The traffic count is on pace to be higher than the total 458,161 in 2023.
SDDOT counts entering traffic at nine locations.
Although the 2024 number is lower than the five-year average of 339,359 vehicles, the figure is higher than the 2023 six-day total of 307,143.
The SDDOT said 52,878 vehicles entered on Wednesday which is a 3.6% decline from the five-year average.
The five-year average daily totals for Thursday through the second Friday through Sunday are: 50,339, 45,493, 34,848, and 21,268. The 2023 daily totals for the same time frame are: 52,195, 45,661, 33,278, and 19,884.
