SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Though it was not as cool as it was on Sunday, Monday’s weather was still nothing short of enjoyable across the region.

That’s even with a few clouds coming along now and again to give a little scenery to the skies above. While we had some clouds, they brought no rain with them…so the wait continues.

And the wait will continue for a while, as high pressure continues to hold serve for the foreseeable future. Though we get a few impulses to pass through the region, they’ll be mainly dry and amount to nothing more than extra clouds at most.

In the short-term, we’ll have to watch the skies for one other thing: Smoke. Wildfires to our north and west will send smoke our way via northwesterly flow aloft. Some of that may make it into the lower atmosphere, so please keep this in mind if you’re sensitive to particulates in the air.

The majority of any kind of change will be seen on the thermometer. We warm up through the second half of the week with 80s to near 90 degree heat at times, but we try to cool off by the weekend. Though we do get back into the 60s and low 70s by then, that will still be above average for this time of year.

In fact, odds for above average temperatures remain favored over a good portion of the continental United States.

Here’s a look at your extended forecast:
